Born February 23, 1944, in Tricomo, Cyprus,
Panayiotis Michael Zavos is the second youngest son of
Michael and Theodora Zavos. He comes from a very
successful family, holding numerous national and
international companies and institutions. He grew up in
Tricomo (currently occupied by the Turkish Invading
Forces that occupied Cyprus since 1974), the birthplace
of Grivas-Digenis leader of EOKA (the Union of Cypriots
that led the struggle against the British) and attended
the Agricultural Gymnasium of Morphou (High school) in
the city of Morphou. He worked at the Agricultural
Research Institute of Cyprus and served as a Lieutenant
in the Cypriot Army from 1963-1966. He immigrated to the
United States for University studies in 1966.
Dr. Panayiotis Zavos received an extensive
education by receiving his B.S. in Biology-Chemistry in
1970, his M.S. in Biology-Physiology in 1972 and
Education Specialist in Science (Ed.S.) in 1976 from
Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. He earned
his Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology, Biochemistry and
Statistics in 1978 from the University of Minnesota in
the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
Subsequently, he received extensive training in
Reproductive Medicine, Andrology, Assisted
Reproductive Technologies and IVF. He received
many awards among others, the Distinguished Alumnus
Award and the Graduate Teaching Award from Emporia State
University and the Student Leadership Award from the
University of Minnesota.
He was also awarded the first ever Honorary
Professorship to be awarded to an American Professor by
Chinese Scientists and by the Chinese Academy of
Science.
Dr. Zavos has a long career as a reproductive
specialist and he has devoted more than 25 years to
academia and research. He served as Visiting Scholar at
Northwestern University in Chicago for two years and
then as Professor of Reproductive Physiology and
Andrology at the University of Kentucky for 22 years. He
is currently the chief scientist in the development of
several new and innovative technologies in
the human reproductive areas with worldwide
implications. He has authored or coauthored a large
numberof peer-review publications, along with a number
of solicited reviews, book chapters and popular press
releases. He has presented more than 400 abstracts and
other presentations at a large number of national,
international and professional scientific meetings all
over the world. Dr. Zavos' studies and findings have
been reported in the local, national and international
press and have been publish in almost every language. He
served as an ad hoc reviewer for the National Institute
of Health in the USA and other scientific and
professional groups.
Professor Zavos now serves in the capacity of
Founder and President of the Zavos Organization,
President and CEO of the Zavos Diagnostic Laboratories,
Inc., a private corporation that markets infertility
products and technologies, in the USA and worldwide,
Founder, Director and Chief Andrologist of the Andrology
Institute of America, offering medical and technological
assistance to male patients with reproductive
difficulties, Founder and Director of the Reprogen
Organization, President of Repromed International,
Founder and Executive Director of the Home Fertility
Network and Associate Director of the Kentucky
Center for Reproductive Medicine in
Lexington Kentucky, USA.
Dr. Zavos is currently serving as a Member of the
International Advisory Committee of the Middle East
Fertility Society, and is a past Board Member of the
China Academy of Science. He is also currently on
the Board of Scientific and Policy Advisors for the
American Council on Science and Health. He has given
plenary lectures nationally and internationally at a
number of Scientific Societies and meetings and has been
and continues to be a visiting scientist for a number of
international collaborations and exchanges. He is
also serving as a Greek Representative for the
Initiative of the Olympia Forum, 2004.
Dr. Zavos has numerous scientific collaborations
nationally and
internationally and
his publications have appeared in many languages. He is
a member of the American Society for Reproductive
Medicine (ASRM), the American Society of Andrology
(ASA), the European Society for Human Reproduction and
Embryology (ESHRE), the Middle East Fertility Society (
MEFS), the Japanese Fertility Society, the International
Society of Cryobiology, Sigma XI, Gamma Sigma Delta and
a number of other Scientific, Honorary and
Professional Societies. He has served on a large number
of committees for the International Society of
Cryobiology, ASRM, MEFS, ESHRE and others.
Professor Zavos has received a great deal of media
coverage both within the scientific and reproductive
arena and the mainstream press for his many scientific
accomplishments and pioneering ventures. Articles
covering his work and accomplishments appeared in many
Newspapers and magazines throughout the World.

revolutionize the future of human medicine and the way

therapies.
He is married to Panayota, a physician trained in
Greece and the USA with specialties in
obstetrics/gynecology and expert in reproductive
medicine and IVF and they have two children, Georgia
